Ice Dragon


This pattern was in the Beadwork magazine in the Feb/Mar 2011 issue. It was so intriguing that I hunted down the issue and then got the beads to make the bangle. Mine is more of a bracelet, since the bead shop didn't have enough of the magatma beads to make it longer.



It was my first ever attempt at making a beadwork bracelet. Oh sure, I flirted with a bead loom in my younger years, but only made a small thing. The pattern was well written and I managed to figure it out by myself.

If you're wanting to do this for yourself, I would recommend getting out some plastic clay to seat the first row in while working on the 2nd row. It keeps things from moving around so you don't have to feel like you need 5 more hands to get it off the ground.

Hi, I tried to make my own dragon bangle but the instructions from the magazine says to use 6' (which is six feet right?) but i'm only getting about half way done. Am i doing something wrong, I'm pretty sure my stitches are good, or is this a misprint?

It's been a long time since I've made that bangle, but I seem to remember having to knot another thread to finish it. Being a seamstress, I know how to hide it, but yes...it probably takes a lot more than they said.

When you were making this, how tight were the beads together? As in before you zipped them together at the end did they basically lay flat or did they curve around?

While putting the beads in order, I snugged them up so they were tight, but not *too* tight. I tried that a few times and it made the beads wonky. When it was zipped, it got a curve to it, especially on the side with the Magatma beads. The inside stayed flat.

Update on Knit-Alongs

Mystery Stole3: Ok, I am confessing that I honestly and truthfully did try to like the stole as the pattern was made, but it didn't click with me. Even after trying to re-dye the whole thing, I considered the wing with the stole portion to be discordant. So last night I frogged it all. OH the horror!! I'm re-working the stole portion as it's own pattern, probably for my Mom for Christmas. I've started it again, and put in the beads this time. Secret of the Stole: I started this one with my own handspun cream Targhee wool. It's weight is fingering weight and it's being knitted on size 3 addi circs. The beads are green. I didn't realize until I had gotten home with them that the chart has green squares as the indicator to put in a bead. Wow....can we say, subliminal? Secret of the Stole: Clue 3 Finished!

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/secretofthestole/ Clue 3 is finished! I am knitting it in handspun 2-ply yarn on size 3 addi circular needles with beads. The beads used to be only green, now I've added lavender and gold ones also. To me, this looks like a spider and web-themed stole. Notice the 3 spiders on it? I call them spiders because they have 8 legs each.
